The Importance of Celebrating Small Wins on the Way to Big Goals

Hey rockstars! Let's talk about something that makes my coaching heart sing – celebrating those "nobody else might notice but they're huge to me" moments.

The Small Win Dilemma: Why We Overlook Our Daily Victories

You know what drives me crazy? When people dismiss their daily victories because they're "not big enough." Like my friend Anna, who was beating herself up for "only" reading 10 minutes a day instead of his one-hour goal. Hold up! That's 70 minutes more reading per week than before!

Here's the thing about those big, juicy goals we set for ourselves: they don't happen in one giant leap. Nobody wakes up and runs a marathon without first celebrating that initial 1-mile run (where they thought their lungs would explode).

The Science of Celebration: How Small Wins Light Up Our Brains

Get this: celebrating small wins actually lights up our brains in all the right ways. It's like giving your brain a little party every time you tick something off your to-do list. That burst of dopamine? It's your brain's way of saying, "Hey, good job! Let's do more of that!"

From Baby Steps to Big Leaps:

Let me share something that transformed how I went from an Agile Coach to a Life Coach: I wanted to start my own coaching gig. Instead of focusing only on the end goal, started celebrating everything – my first draft of the website design, my first awkward networking event, even my first rejection! Those tiny victories became my fuel.

Think about it like this: When a baby learns to walk, we don't say "Ugh, you only took three steps." We celebrate! We cheer! We probably post it on Instagram! So why do we forget this when it comes to our own growth?

No victory is too small. Period.

My Personal Victory Dance

Some "small" wins I celebrated in the last weeks:

  • Sending that  email I have been dreading

  • Drinking water instead of my third coffee

  • Finally organizing that one drawer (you know the one)

  • Speaking up in a meeting in a language (outside my first language), even if my voice shook

I get it – sometimes it feels silly to celebrate something small when you've got big dreams. But remember, those big dreams are made up of countless small steps. Each one is worth acknowledging.

Start celebrating these "mini-milestone" moments:

  • Sticking to a carb count for two days in a row. Look at you, future fitness enthusiast!

  • Said "no" to a draining social event? That's self-care superhero status!

Trust me, these moments matter more than you think. I learned this the hard way. I used to brush off my small wins, always chasing the next big thing. But one day, after feeling constantly drained and unmotivated, I tried something different.

I started a "Success Spotlight" journal (fancy name for my messy notebook of wins). Each night, I wrote down three things I was proud of that day. Some days, they were obvious wins – like finally launching my website as a LifeCoach. Other days, they were as simple as "remembered to include  fitness into a routine" or "spoke up in that scary meeting."

You know what happened? Those tiny celebrations became my daily fuel. They turned my inner critic into my biggest cheerleader. Now when I look back through my journal, I don't just see small wins – I see the story of my growth, one tiny victory at a time.
